Beth Hallett

I attended the University of Maine where I earned my B.S. in Child Development/Family Relations and hold a K-8 teaching certificate. My teaching experiences include being a site-director for the PEAK program, a Kindergarten teacher and currently I teach preschool and mentor pre-service teachers at the Child Study and Development Center at the University of New Hampshire.

I grew up on a Dairy farm in Crystal, Maine. We hayed, milked cows, collected eggs and cultivated a large family garden. During my four years at CSDC, I have been an integral member in the collaborative garden. I presented The Caterpillar Project at Lowell Public Schools (June 2004) and co-presented Growing an Emergent Curriculum at the Growing a Green Generation conference (March 2005).

It is my goal to provide children with the opportunity to plant, harvest and cook the plants that they have grown instilling in them a sense of pride, teamwork and success in their accomplishments. While engaging in gardening, children practice skills such as; problem solving, collaboration, counting, measuring, writing, language, and risk-taking. It is my hope that children will then use these skills to foster more meaningful and respectful relationships with peers, adults, the community and their environment.
